Golden Key International Honour Society

This past summer, American Public University System established a chapter of the Golden Key International Honour Society.  The Society was founded in 1977 with the intention of recognizing high-achieving students from around the world and across all academic disciplines for their academic excellence.  Offering membership to only the top fifteen percent of college and university sophomores, juniors, seniors, and grad students, an invitation to become a member of Golden Key is a laudable distinction.

Since its inception some three decades ago, Golden Key now has close to 400 chapters worldwide containing some 1.8 million members and more than 8,000 honorary members including former U.S. President Ronald Reagan; Anglican Archbishop Emeritus of Cape Town, Reverend Desmond M. Tutu; and, Nobel Laureate and author, Elie Wiesel.

Members of the society enjoy many significant and substantial benefits.  Among these include opportunities for scholarships and networking with others.  Golden Key offers more than $400,000 in scholarships annually to its members.  In addition, Golden Key offers career placement assistance to members.  With the simply-stated mission “to enable members to realize their potential,” Golden Key certainly provides many avenues by which members can pursue their own goals with assistance from the Golden Key network.  True to its international spirit, Golden Key provides many resources to help students interested in pursuing study abroad opportunities.  Partnering with organizations like Academic Studies Abroad and ProWorld Study Abroad, Golden Key allows its members to search for the study abroad opportunity that best fits each individual’s academic and career interests.

Though brand new, the APUS chapter of Golden Key International Honour Society already has 829 members and is continuing to grow!  As an online institution with students located all over the world, many serving overseas with our armed forces, others managing other full-time jobs and families, APUS can appreciate the non-academic time constraints that are placed on our students.  The fact that so many of them have managed to balance their personal, professional and academic lives with such skill is a tremendous achievement and one that should not go unnoticed.  Kudos to our students who have already been inducted into Golden Key International Honour Society!

APUS is in the midst of its second round of inductions for Golden Key and students who meet the qualifying criteria will receive an invitation to join.  APUS encourages all students who receive an invitation to become members of this distinguished and worthwhile honor society.  For more details on Golden Key International Honour Society, please contact our Student Affairs Manager, Carolyn Todaro at studentaffairs@apus.edu.
