  • Co-Founder, Green Street Impact Partners private equity firm (2021). The company invests in education technology companies that can scale and positively impact the success of learners throughout the K-12, higher education, and workforce development continuum.
  • Former President and CEO, American Public University System (APUS) and its parent company, American Public Education, Inc. (APEI) (2004-2020). He guided APUS through successful initial accreditation with the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association in 2006 and reaccreditation in 2011. In 2007, he led APEI to an initial public offering on the NASDAQ exchange. For four years, from 2009 through 2012, APEI was ranked in the top 10 “America’s Best Small Public Companies” by Forbes. During his tenure, APUS grew from 4,000 online students to more than 100,000.

A Multi-faceted Career

  • Author and co-author of papers on online post-secondary student retention.
  • Frequent speaker on the impact of technology on higher education, online student retention, and learning outcomes assessment.
  • Member of the Board of Trustees of the McDonogh School, a private K-12 school in Baltimore.
  • Served as a member of the Board of Overseers of the University of Pennsylvania’s Graduate School of Education.
  • Served as a member of the Board of Directors of APEI from 2004 through May 2020.
  • Is a licensed CPA and has earned the designations of CGMA and CMA.
