Veterans Day: 100 Years of Honoring Veterans’ Sacrifices

Note: This article was originally published on In Military.

United States military veterans hold a special place in the hearts of Americans. Certainly, the sacrifices that veterans make on behalf of all Americans are worth celebrating and as a nation, we have been honoring our vets for over 100 years.

We may honor those servicemembers who paid the ultimate sacrifice on Memorial Day; Veterans Day is for the living — a celebration of life, camaraderie, esprit de corps and triumph in the face of hardships.

Educational Attainment: Tracking the Academic Success of Servicemembers and Veterans

While much has been written about college persistence and retention related to traditional college students (18-22 year-olds matriculating immediately after high school graduation), substantially less has been written about adult students, particularly those whose jobs and family obligations make it difficult to attend college in a traditional face-to-face classroom structure. The poem below was written by one of our alums, Joe DeCree.

American Public University System Participates in Wreaths Across America

This past Saturday, hundreds of students, staff, and faculty from American Military University and American Public University honored American veterans by laying wreaths at grave sites in cemeteries nationwide as part of the Wreath Across America program.

Students, including the group pictured here at Arlington National Cemetery, gathered nationwide to participate in Wreaths Across America, a nonprofit organization that honors veterans every year by laying wreaths at grave sites.

Veterans Day 2013

On Veterans Day, we celebrate and honor members of our nation’s armed forces for their tremendous commitment and sacrifices.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918, the Allies and Germany announced a temporary cessation of all hostilities, signaling the end of the Great War, World War I.
