The 12th annual report from the Babson Survey Research Group (BSRG) sponsored by the Online Learning Consortium (formerly the Sloan Consortium) that tracks the growth of online education has been released.
This year’s report is notable for several changes. After 10 years of discussing the need for the Department of Education to track online enrollments, the National Center for Educational Statistics has begun to track online enrollments through its IPEDS data collection process.
In many research papers reporting on the persistence of adult students, authors cite a Department of Education Study that reports several risk factors that may influence a non-traditional student’s persistence in college. The study, commissioned by the Department of Education and entitled Profile of Undergraduates in U.S. Postsecondary Institutions: 1992-1993, was authored by Laura Horn and Mark D.
An article in Inside Higher Ed discusses the efforts by the Australian government to deregulate tuition and fees by 2016 and the potential consequences for students if that occurs. Naturally, the discussion leads to tuition discounting as it exists in the United States. The writer references a July 2014 survey by the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) that finds that among 401 nonprofit colleges and universities, nearly 90 percent of the freshmen class were receiving grants equivalent to nearly a 50 percent discount on tuition.
